![]() We might not always understand Life Itself. Life Itself is complicated… yes, both the movie, and our own lives. This is all to convince you, that if you stopped this movie half-way through – or if you’ve never watched it – you have to watch this movie – in its entirety. ![]() ![]() I’m going to try to do this review with very few spoilers, I will talk about a few scenes, and what happens, but not who they are happening to. Life Itself (both the movie, and well… Life) can have some pretty horrible things happen when we least expect it… but Life Itself (again both the movie, and actual real life), can have amazing beautiful moments that teach us the power of the human spirit, the power of love, and the importance of family. This movie is amazing… but it doesn’t seem that way at first. How many times have you ever sat down to watch a movie, and had to turn it off without finishing it because it was just such a bad movie? I can guess a lot of people chose to turn off this movie… So I’m here to tell you to give it another chance. ![]()

Then later we learn that a cart was carrying a dead horse and Black Beauty had hoped it was Ginger so Ginger could be at peace and not suffer anymore. Ginger had an awful owner again and wanted nothing more but to be dead so the pain would stop. ![]() The saddest part was when Black Beauty met Ginger in town. I had forgotten the sadness that comes in this story the abuse of wonderful horses and it was even more saddening to hear it from Black Beauty's point of view. It made the story more engaging and I felt closer to the horse's character than if it was just a regular narration. It was an interesting turn and at first I didn't like it, but once I got used to it it was fine. The book for the most part is narrated by Black Beauty which was surprising at first because I wasn't expecting that. I was excited to read this and revisit an old favorite. Although ethnic tensions preceded this event, known as Black July, by decades, it is often considered the beginning of the Sri Lankan civil war.īlack July lives on through communal memory, of course, but also in photographs. What happened in Colombo echoed all over the country, and many Tamils fled, some leaving Sri Lanka forever. The death toll is estimated to have been in the thousands, although no official number was ever announced. The violence raged for days before then-President J.R. Tamils were murdered or displaced, Tamil houses and offices burned. The night after the ambush, mobs from the country’s Sinhalese majority targeted and attacked Tamils-members of the country’s largest ethnic minority group-in Colombo. The violence followed the deaths of 13 Sinhalese Sri Lankan Army soldiers at the hands of Tamil militants in the city of Jaffna. In July 1983, Sri Lanka’s capital of Colombo erupted in anti-Tamil pogroms effectively sanctioned by the state. ![]() ![]() Just as in his mega-selling classic Press Here, Tullet sets readers on an extraordinary journey of color, motion, and interactivity.
